Project Overview & Scope

The Brief

Julianne and Rob were returning clients who had previously engaged us to renovate their main bathroom, carefully designed to support Julianne’s medical and mobility needs. Following the success of that project and the positive impact it had on daily life, they invited us back to transform their kitchen.

The existing kitchen was dated, dark, and increasingly difficult to work in. Poor layout and limited storage made movement challenging, and the space no longer supported Julianne’s needs — or her love of cooking. Having previously cooked professionally, Julianne found the kitchen had become more of an obstacle than a joy. Future-proofing was also a key consideration, with the potential need for wheelchair access guiding the brief.

The Solution

With full trust in our design expertise, Julianne and Rob allowed us to completely reimagine the kitchen layout. We reoriented the space to improve flow into the adjoining dining area, creating clearer circulation paths and a more open, accessible environment.

Through thoughtful spatial planning and custom joinery, we were able to more than double the available storage while improving ease of movement throughout the kitchen. The result was a space that felt lighter, calmer, and significantly more functional — supporting both current needs and long-term living.

The Design Stage – The CBRS Advantage

The design concept began with a meaningful detail: the splashback tile. Left over from Julianne’s bathroom renovation, it became the foundation for the kitchen’s colour palette, subtly connecting both spaces and creating continuity throughout the home.

Lower cabinetry features a flat-profile polyurethane finish, custom colour-matched to the splashback tile for a cohesive and refined look. Overhead cabinetry in Polytec Coastal Oak introduces warmth and a relaxed, coastal feel, balancing the lighter elements and adding texture.

Design decisions were guided by accessibility, longevity, and everyday usability. Wherever possible, drawers were prioritised over cupboards to improve function and ease of access, including the incorporation of pull-out pantry drawers to reduce bending and reaching.

While no photorealistic renders were produced for this project, detailed floor plans and technical 3D drawings ensured clarity throughout the design and construction process — allowing the finished kitchen to closely reflect the original intent.

Client Experience & Reflection

This kitchen renovation was one of the final projects Julianne and Rob planned together for their forever home. Julianne spoke often about how life-changing the earlier bathroom renovation had been, and the kitchen was designed with the same care, intention, and focus on making everyday life easier and more enjoyable.

Julianne sadly passed away before we were able to return for the final photoshoot. At Rob’s request, we completed the shoot, knowing how much the space had meant to her. Rob has since committed to completing the remaining finishing touches they had planned together — a meaningful continuation of their shared vision for the home.
